Takaichi earned 185 votes against Koizumi’s 156 in a runoff after none of the five candidates in the party leadership race secured a majority in the first round of voting.

      Not wanting a woman in charge is more a distinctly US conservative position. In the UK for example, the Tories have had 4 female leaders including 3 Prime Ministers, while Labour are zero and zero (not counting “acting” leaders).
