What’s the definition of theft in Canada? Here it requires intent to keep the object, which I don’t think is given in case of a spontaneous joy ride where the person returned the bus.
Just looked it up, and in Canada “intent to temporarily deprive the owner” is theft.
It’s the same as the definition of theft everywhere else. He stole a bus. You can’t get off saying to planned to return something like some 11 year old.
Here it’s only theft if you intend to keep it. Just borrowing without permission, as in this case, is not theft.
