The vote is due to take place today. But, as they have done so in the past, they may postpone it until they are confident of it being passed. Germany are believed to be opposing it too.

As things stand, it is believed it will not pass. In which case they will probably postpone it again until they can convince the other countries (mainly Germany) to vote in support of it. Ireland are next to get the EU presidency. And what bunch of arrogant twats in charge there. So they’ll probably try and push it through. The current leader of the party in charge (Taoiseach/Prime minister) is in trouble, but might hold on to the position for the presidency. But even if he doesn’t, the next in line to take his position is probably the current minister for justice - Jim O’Callaghan, who is in favour of it most likely because he doesn’t understand it properly.
So we likely still have another six or seven months at least, of this crap.
I could be wrong, but I don’t think any actual vote has taken place yet, they keep pushing it back as they are expecting it to fail. They want to get all countries on board and then quickly make them vote for it. You can see which way every country is expected to vote on fightchatcontrol.eu

I’d say it may have a lot to do with that. Israel and the US have shown how powerful abusing peoples privacy can be. They have also shown how profitable.

That’s one of my biggest gripes. The politicians voting on deciding this should remember that people will be watching and remembering every single tiny piece of dirt on them and it will be published. It’s not a nice feeling. Phones could be stolen with private data on them, laptops etc. Horrible to have all of your personal data being taken.
I wonder if they no longer get elected, do they become the Plebeians, and would their devices automatically be scanned from then on.
Seems that if this goes through, the only way around it would be to run for government.
The thread title is the headline of the article. It’s the reason it caught my eye (and many others). Despite using the word spam, it shows how effective the campaign has been. They mention that the site developer never paid to promote it. Which shows how many people are against it. Danish Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard (would like to see his credentials) is the main supporter of this particular chat control, is moaning saying:
“This has nothing to do with ‘Chat Control,’ as the sponsors of the citizens’ initiative claim,”
So it’s good on that level too, that he, and the eu council finally have to comment on it, as they were hoping to never actually address it and just push it through. It’s also stated in the article
