I’m actually astonished you missed my point so… completely.

Pre-Alexa-Plus it wasn’t AI, it was simple pattern matching with very constrained commands.
They’ve replaced these very limited sets of commands with bullshit interpretation that tries to not only understand “like a human” but respond in a similar manner. Those same commands can now be interpreted in a number of ways, and you have no guarantee how it will be taken.

Cool, you gonna hang out in my greenhouse and wake me up when the temp drops below a certain point? What about alert me to an increasing trend of the sump pump running more often?
Home automation isn’t just “Alexa I’m lazy turn off the light switch I’m next to” and presenting it as such is simply disingenuous.

How do you figure that a passkey in a password manager is weaker? Especially when compared to username/password/2fa all stored in that same password manager?

To be fair, any kind of automated system can just break. So many factors come into play. Azure build pipelines for instance just sometimes decide they can’t communicate with their own servers, causing a build failure.

On the off chance you’re facing issues due to CGNAT, you’d likely need to work around it with something like a cloudflare tunnel, or purchasing a cheap VPS and porting all traffic through WireGuard or similar.

You don’t take into account external factors like that. This is like saying “oh your watch battery will last an entire year? What about if I launch it into the sun‽‽”

The degradation of materials is pretty well understood. If it’s truly cut from a well known material with zero factors that could effect that degradation, it’s mostly safe to make en educated wish.

Sure, apart from charging for remote access.

Isn’t HFS still a thing people use? Literally one file, no need for python, no install, just run it and you’ve got an http interface available on your local network to upload/download files to.

This is a weird response. From the sounds of things, Rebble essentially “stole” at least a large number of the apps in question from the original developers, and now claims that data as their own. Going so far as to charging for access. Which makes no sense at all.

Cmon, you can’t cherry pick a house and say “just uproot your entire life, there are cheaper houses out there!”
Schools, job market, support system and more all play a huge part. It isn’t as simple as “just move.”

Six figures could be anything between 100k and 999k. If they are on the lower end, they aren’t really that privileged, especially if they are living in an area that necessitates a pay that high.
Hell, there are some places that 100k would be closer to the regions “poverty line” so to speak.

I’m not seeing how this is any different than getting an ID at the DMV… in fact this may be more secure if you can’t just pull the ID up on a locked phone, which would be an improvement.

Just as an example, 1Password has a secondary encryption key that they can’t even recover. If you lose it, you’re fucked. I doubt the chances of that being cracked are any good at all.

In fairness, that’s another 2 year commitment.

Horsepower is a pretty standard way to advertise things in the automotive industry…

The opposite is fucking people over lately too. Pure coding jobs are passing people over because they don’t have literally any degree and it’s insane. 10 years of experience but no degree? Pass. Fresh out of a bootcamp and a bachelors in music? You’re hired!
I mean, in certain circumstances sure. But all it would take is a whisper of proof that they abused this position to destroy their business model.
