  • Yes, there’s room for discussion, so there’s no blind support for Israel. I’m not saying there is no support for Israel. Western Europe is walking the line between appeasement politics and reality. They all know that condemning Israel would create tensions with the US.

But if you look at citizens, pro-Palestine (so not necessarily pro-Hamas) protests are centered around ending human suffering, without actually taking a side in who has a claim to the land there.

The Netherlands is not participating in the Eurovision Song Festival, which might seem like inconsequential, but it’s a pretty big statement. Winners of the contest are returning the awards now that Israel is not banned from participating.

Plus the ICJ is located in the Hague, which isn’t recognized by the USA, but also show some moderate doubts towards what Israel is doing.

The entire situation in Israel is complicated with its roots going far beyond the temporal conscience of people. There’s no clear answer other than that nothing warrants bombing hospitals and blocking humanitarian aid.

  • The USA never really had allies after WWII. They did a lot to stop Germany from taking over the continent, but after that the USA was basically a playground bully, an enforcer, that believes it’s the boss and as long as everyone does what they want, they can be friends.

Now that they start doing things that don’t align with what the ideals of the European Union or Europe in general, suddenly we start seeing that ‘allies’ is a very relative term.

The USA just wants to be number 1. Now that they have started destroying their own economy, suddenly the EU, Canada, China, all of them seem like threats.

Basically the USA is just a market to Europe, and they provide the media we watch in the shape of TV shows and the like. They provide the arms we need to ‘keep peace’ where necessary. If shit is going to hit the fan (more than it did in Ukraine, maybe also tensions in Gaza since Europe doesn’t blindly support Israel), it’s not a given that the USA and Europe will be on the same side, but my point is it was never really a given.

Containerized software. The main advantage of this is that every application, or stack of applications, runs in its own ecosystem. You can restart a container whenever without having to reboot your entire system. You can store all data off a container in a volume, so if you hit a snag, you can recreate the container without actually losing any of your configs.

You can also create networks so that apps run in different subnets than other apps.

Very simply put, a docker container is like a mini system that runs on your main system.

Something else I like about docker is docker compose. You can create a container or stack of containers with a single simple YAML file without actually having to install anything yourself. I manage my containers in Portainer.

You can run nginx in a docker container and define reverse proxies there. That will only require your to open up 443 in your router if you use SSL (which I highly recommend and is simple with Let’s Encrypt)

Then I’d recommend connecting to your arrs and torrent client in Nzb360 paid edition to manage everything in there.

As far as safety, well nothing is bulletproof. If they want to get in, they will. Best thing I can recommend is to run your arrs / indexers through a different IP address than your torrent client. But if they want to find you, they’ll find you. Thing is they probably won’t come after you if your ISP doesn’t report you uploading terabytes a day. SSL helps and keeping your arrs behind complex passwords (use a password manager) will keep the server itself relatively safe.

Unless of course, ISPs in your country suddenly start to crack down on illegal downloading hard.

  • This whole thing reads as though the writer feels Le Pen didn’t really do anything wrong, but is being made an example of for having a different opinion.

I feel like we read a lot of things about far right populists claiming they are being actively prevented from practicing politics due to things they say, but then something comes out about what scumbags they really are.

Pretty much the only thing these populists have to defend themselves is whataboutism. I figured the trias politica would always make sure independent forces could keep these kinds of folks in check. This means

The law should always be applied.

Which begs the question: what happens when these guys do get to power, change the laws to their own liking, somehow get it pushed through…
