  • People keep saying the problem ‘wasnt that they used AI placeholder assets, it’s that they lied on the disclosure’, but boy does that still seem like a reach

When you have dozens of people working on a huge creative project, it would take an almost omniscient creative director to know where every asset in every scene came from with certainty. It isn’t hard to imagine a designer somewhere on the team sneaking an AI asset into a pre-release build and forgetting about it. The fact that it was later disclosed suggests that whoever was applying for the award wasn’t aware of that asset being used and then replaced at the time of submission.

I dont mind having some awards dedicated to genAI-free works, but people really need to stop getting their pitchforks out at every mention, otherwise they risk turning into a lynch mob. This doesnt sound like an intentional omission to me.

  • Listening to her interview on NPR was kind of wild

She had nothing but praise for Trump and defended the decision to bomb the boats in the Caribbean. Then she made a bunch of proclamations about accepting US intervention for enforcing regime change, and then advocated for doing the same in Cuba and Nicaragua

Once Maduro goes and we liberate our country, the Cuban regime will follow, the Nicaraguan regime will follow.

And for the first time in history, for the first time in history, we will have the Americas free of communism and narco dictatorships

Ive heard a few people ask if she’s a CIA asset, amd while I don’t think it’s appropriate to speculate, I can see why the question is asked. The American State Department has been trying to install western-backed regimes in central and south America since the cold war.

Part of the reason we even have narco states in the south is because of the decades long proxy battle happening there.

The Nobel prize has a weird amount of legitimacy for how often it backs western regime change

  • echoed quite a bit of what I’ve been saying about .ml, the Triad, general toxicity of their Tankie “ideology” for months now.

Sorry, how is his post at all about the ‘triad’?

Frankly, I think it’s the constant attempts at instigating flame wars that I find to be so grating, not the users with opinions I find distasteful. I have no idea what ptz’s specific experience was like, but seeing a prominent anti-tanky crusader project their personal vendetta onto this announcement is the kind of shit I find myself constantly rolling my eyes at.

Federated social media is built to facilitate community between people of different preferences, and it’s exactly this constant crusading that’s likely to extinguish it. You think you’re on a mission of purification but it looks more like you’re extinguishing what little enthusiasm there was for lemmy to begin with. Defederation is absolutely a tool for moderation, but making it your entire mission to push for it in every space you participate in is itself a suffocating cancer.

Let people decide for themselves what instances they want to commune with and stop pestering the entire platform into reflecting your personal tastes.

  • Yea, I don’t disagree, and I don’t actually fault anyone for using plex for it’s simplicity of remote configuration.

I do think a lot of people overlook simple workarounds to doing straight reverse proxies. I’ve used a VPN to access my remote services without issue for a long time. Granted, that’s still a prerequisite skill a lot of people don’t have, but I think a lot of people already inside the self-host space already have that knowledge. And frankly, self-hosting as a concept stems from this idea that with a little bit of effort, we can free ourselves from corporately owned SAAS companies - it shouldn’t be so divisive to be advocating for self-sufficiency.

There’s absolutely a place for plex. It’s a lot of people’s first foray into selfhosting. But I think people miss the opportunity to learn a new skill when they decide they’re willing to put up with abuse instead of taking the hint that it’s time to migrate.

  • Yea, they were extremely vague about what the nature of their problem was, but they mentioned it was running on the same media library as their plex install. They insisted that it was because jellyfin was poorly designed and definitely not user error. Could have been a bunch of things, but it was almost certainly a config error. They said the server ‘locked up’ and all the other services became unresponsive any time jellyfin was scanning. They also did not like the way jf wrote metadata files to the media library volume. It was among their other complaints, such as ‘i didn’t like that you could reskin it’ and ‘it was too complicated to use for managing my book collection’.

sounded like a usergroup mapping issue to me but hard to say for sure. They said they weren’t interested in troubleshooting it so, whatareyagonnado? They seem really invested in not liking it though.

  • There are a lot of people here who simply cannot be bothered to figure out remote access

A weird one i saw today was actually “jellyfin took too many resources scanning my library” and ‘if it doesn’t have an SSO my family won’t use it’

I think a lot of people just enjoy plex better and will accept any minor inconvenience as justification. That’s fine though. I’ll swear up and down that apple products are not worth the convenience, either, but there will always be people who simply like them more than others, and thats fine

  • by your logic if the only response to one genocide is another genocide, then yes that is also pro-genocide

Yea, see this is the antisemitic version of zionism. Advocating for the liberation of Palestine isn’t the same as advocating for a genocide or expulsion of Jews in Israel. It would be like saying WWII was ultimately a genocide of germans, since they were violently resisted in their conquest of Europe.

Yes, the resistance against genocide will almost certainly involve violence - that doesn’t mean that advocating for resistance isn’t justified, or even that advocating for violent resistance isn’t justified. WWII would have been really short if we had rhetorically ‘opposed’ the holocaust, but banned any speech that even implied violence against Germans (including violent liberation to stop an active genocide).

  • One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws

Why should it be necessary to specify Israelis as deserving of equal rights in historic Palestine when it is Israel who denies equal rights to Palestinians and not the other way around?

Go ahead and ban me now if that kind of acknowledgment can get you in legal trouble - I have no interest in participating in a community that is comfortable suppressing criticisms against an ethno-religious apartheid state committing genocide. Fuck Israel and fuck the German collaborators.

    Free Palestine.
