That is part of what a phd can argue about…
I would argue that the registration cost is just a tax and you own it. But remember I’m arguing as a philosopher and not someone who can’t see both sides or even thinks there needs to be one correct side.

The city of LA should not get a .com name. They might have a case that la.com should not have a .com either (they look like a tourist .org though if they are not acting like a .org they are scammers) - but this would be a very hard sell in court. The city of LA should have a .gov (which won’t allow them) or .us (which is not organized well - something they should be mad about and pressure to get fixed) name.

Why not? You can’t hold it, but why should that be a limit?
Note, phd’s can easially be written on this subject defending either side. Some of those will say things like domains are not generally property, but for some situations we should treat them like property and in other situations not. I’m not expecting a response. I’m expecting everyone to think about the question.

I will defend anyone when they are in the right, even if I otherwise hate them. I require proper due process for murders and other criminals who have done worse things that large corporations (most large corporations have committed murder - or at least not done it in a way that I can prove beyond any shadow of doubt)

if we are going to capitalism
Nobody is for capitalism, except as a derivative of classical liberalism. Capitalism might be useful as a tool in economics, but so is the “spherical cow” useful in physics - you can learn a lot but need to be careful as it doesn’t apply to the real world.
Since nobody is going full capitalist we can ask what liberalism things - and that is a branch of philosophy much more complex than just pure economics. In this case Lamborghini is entitled to their property, which we know is their property because the Lambo guy was acting like it was - in many other domain cases there is at least some doubt.

Details matter. In this case the guy shouldn’t have kept the name. On the one you mention the guy should have.
Of course in both cases I am lacking full information. It may be biased sources are giving me incomplete information and if I had all the information I’d change my position.

I don’t care how much I hate someone, or otherwise how evil they are: when they are right I will support and cheer them. I can still oppose them in other ways, here they are in the right.

Anti love potions exist and have been regularly used since before recorded history. We call the poison.
I’ve been using fastmail for a long time for this now. I’ve been happy, not to expensive. I’m surprised they haven’t been recommended, normally when the question is asked there are a million fastmail recommendations

The US promised to bring this to the UN security console and did. However Russia has veto rights on the UN security console and so this went nowhere.
RaidZ1 is not the same as a mirror. I’m not sure if you are allowed to have Z1 with only 2 disks, but if you are you still shouldn’t because while it scales down that far it still does parity calculations and writes that to the second disk instead of just writing a copy of the data (the parity calculations probably result in the same data, but I doubt this is optimized)
ZFS snapshots are easy to settup. If you don’t notice that you deleted all the snapshots for a month you never will.
you still should have offsite backups for a fire, but the notion that raid isn’t backup is not really correct since for most people the situations that raid with snapshots isn’t enough protection will never occure and to the risk is acceptable. Plus raid is a lot easier to get right. For that matter if you have a backup but don’t have the password after the fire you don’t have a backup.
though if you rely on raid alone I’d want 3 disk redundancy.

We currently couldn’t detect life on earth from nearest star and it is unlikely we ever can build anything good enough to. Which means if we discover life we know they are plenty advanced as to make our efforts uneeded as they can tell us a better protocol. Not that we have the ftl needed to reach them anyway.

I don’t understand why legitmate companies are not in arms over this. When that many ads are scams your customers will learn that facebook ads are scams and not buy from you either. Fool me once…

I have a pi3 with a 20" touchscreen that I’m using. Raspbian booting to magic mirror. It works, but Magic Mirror is slow bloated/slow that I’m not happy with it. I’m about ready to make my own QT based signage - I suspect it will be much more performant as well as more flexible. Still it is a lot of work and so I hesitate to bother (even if version one could be done in a day - I have enough other projects).

not in 6/8 or 2/2 - both are useful. You can not reduce fractions as time signatures are not fractions even thouth they appear that way.

Good transit is always expensive. Where the money comes from can be hidden from the end users, but it is always expensive. If you only look at the fares it might seem that good transit is cheap, but that is just because the costs have been moved elsewhere - a political question that has nothing to do with transit.
Good transit means you can get a lot of places (there are a lot of routes, with good transfers), and you don’t have to wait (meaning there are a lot of vehicles). That costs a lot of money no matter where you are.
However if you look at it a differently - your alternatives are either worse or more expensive.
Your share of the cheapest car (meaning 10 years old and you do all the maintenance yourself) is still going to be more that a great transit network. Most people live in a “family” situation so you could save money if you went down to one car/truck for those random things transit cannot do and use transit for everything, but this is only possible if you have great transit such that for more people this is a reasonable option.
A bike (ebike) is cheaper, but you can get much less distance in a reasonable amount of time. (or at least should be able to - many bad transit systems are slower than a bike!).
Walking is very cheap, but you cannot get very far in a reasonable amount of time and so it is limiting.

You can start with used but modern x86 - the n100 line - has very low power usage and will long term be a better investment. A pi is about the same cost once you get the accessories needed and uses as much power to get work done, but can do less work. (If the computers are idel the pi wins)
even if their country has a port that doesn’t mean they keep their yacht there. better to fly to a Carribian island where the weather is nice than keep it near home and spend all that time sailing to where you want to be - boats are typically so slow that they would need to leave before they get there. If you want the yacht is some port you have the crew move it there and then you fly to it.
