I begin to believe that we are here in our own bubble. Most lemmy users are against AI implementation. One can see tons of news articles that state that AI implementation failed in many businesses. According to many here, they either expect AI bubble to burst soon or believe that it will do so in near future. Literally everyone would say that putting AI in firefox is a terrible idea that will stray more users off the browser.

If they fear losing user base by not implementing AI, I doubt they are deaf to all the tiny community they have. That is 100% not the “fear” of missing out. That is very likely money grab that was paid by major AI company(ies). They cant be so much blind that they would destroy their community just to not to miss out on AI craze (that also likely already had passed).

There is a sizeable amount of people who wish to stay off chromium and avoid AI entirely. Not like FF has a major % of userbase in the internet. They could’ve cater to those people by evading AI entirely and probably would gain much bigger user base by doing that. Spread of word and all. Why would they go the opposite way and stray even more people away from their already tiny core user amount? Doesn’t make sense to me. Did they pair with OpenAI or any other AI company who paid them monnies to be brainless idiots?

Not gonna deny that these people exist. But also want to say that I know none of them. Usually they would check trailer and/or go to something that they think will be a good watch. Never heard a single person say “Trailer is shit and gives out whole plot. Movie will suck!” and still give it a try at the cinema.

No one should be outraged. That is how all robovacs are working - use LIDAR to map area -> send back to server -> server calculates optimal cleaning route -> sends back info to vac -> vac cleans. Vac cant ping back to server - server thinks vac is dead. No killswitch is needed.

Also, app is not a necessity except we are forced to use it. But many would not like to lose an ability to track progress or start and stop cleaning from their phone outside of the home network. For these features, app and external server is a must.

The only real issue with robo vacs is that it is an IoT device. We should make manufacturers and brands to let us choose if we want to selfhost their software. But that would never happen.

If you are talking about NPC AI as if their behaviour that is programmed - then you talk about the wrong thing. The buzz is about AI being used to generate textures, levels, designs of characters, text/dialogue, story/plot of the game.

Nah. I dissagree. My dedicated NAS system consumes around 40W idling and is very small sized machine. My old PC would utilize 100W idling and is ATX-sized case. Of course I can use my old PC as a NAS, but these two are different category devices.

Is it due to geo-blocking?

I have noticed that some sites would load my local language version even if I point out original site. E.g. southpark.cc.com would stubbornly redirect to southpark.de no matter how you tried to trick it. And, of course, some content on some sites would also report that is is unavailable in my region.

I run Nextcloud of an NAS appstore. NAS is Asustor Drivestor 4 gen2 - Realtek RTD1619B CPU with 2GB non-expandable DDR4 ram. NAS runs couple of other services like Vaultwarden, Radarr, Sonarr, Uptime Kuma and maybe something else, I dont remember. NAS runs at around 10% CPU and 50% RAM at all times.

Nextcloud isntance is AIO and I have no choice in what type it is. There also are no other good file hosting services but Nextcloud on the app store.

Now the experience: It is slow. Slower than say Google Drive. Login page loads slow but not too slow. I would describe it as sluggish. Like if you run windows 98 file manager on a 5400rpm old drive and you just want to copy couple of files. I went to admin panel and disabled all junk that I will definitely wont run in future. That made it bit faster than before. It works but could be much snappier. Maybe in near future I will move to Opencloud or Owncloud or whatever other services that are similar experience to Nextcloud are.

In my defense, I barely use Nextcloud. It is a nice-to-have option to upload any files that I may find useful to save or/and access later. Therefore, I want to note that sluggishness of Nextcloud doesn’t bother me. But I wish it would be as snappy as Immich is.

That is assuming that someone will sit there and try to decrypt password rules for that specific person. Chances of that happening are basically 0, unless they are some sort of a high interest person.

Making charging stations for trucks is not feasible as of today, I think. Judging by how they park in Autobahn pockets, they would need a designated parking lot just for these trucks where each spot has a charger. These parking spots would be huge. As huge as some major on-road gas stations. We maybe could add infrastructure to these existing gas stations. All the small ones needs to be extended. And the ones that are just for parking - have do be rebuilt entirely.

It seems that this is a whole a lot of work. But is it as much as building wireless charging road? I feel that trucks will never go electric in near future.

As a newbie in selfhosting, Immich is what I use almost every day. And it is so good. A literal Google Photos but it’s my own. Snappy web app and android app. Has epic face recognition, contextual search and now even text recognition. All that on an efficient and not so powerful N100 cpu. I can totally see why community loves it.

Mine runs on some rockchip and 2gb ram h side drivestor gen2 Nas. Sluggish, but works with no troubles so far. Or is indeed not a hardware hungry I stance if you use it for you yourself and maybe a few family members
