I just simply dont monitor most things. I do have a few things such as low disk space and failed backups. They are just simple shell scripts that send me an ntfy message when there is a problem.

My experience is the same as yours, but I think the people complaining are the ones who are federated and are in large communities. Matrix apparently doesnt handle large rooms very well.

Sure I can see that.
My wife and I have 3 small children, full time jobs, and no daycare. I can definitely say our life is not frictionless. I dont think there is anything wrong with wanting some things to be easy, and I dont blame her for not wanting to switch when I dont have something better.

I didn’t say i needed it personally, I need it if I’m going to get my family members to drop Spotify for my service.

But I need to get those recommendations to automatically populate into playlist in my music app so its all in one place. Thats the challenge. Providing a close to as good service as Spotify.

My issue is discovery. I’ll take a look at what they’ve done here, but ive never been able to implement a reliable discovery process into my workflow. I still use local music, but my wife is not going to switch until I get at least some reliable and effective discovery built.

If you didn’t know anything else about bitcoin you’d know its a scam just from Trump getting involved.

Anecdote but ive been hosting Plex for family members for 10+ years. I tried the Jellyfin switch. Compared to Plex the Jellyfin apps are pretty bad, and I had a ton of performance problems with the remote streaming as well. Its just not ready for that use case. Family members begged me to go back to Plex.
My family at home and myself, we are using Jellyfin currently. It works OK for home use but there are days I want to go back to Plex. Its just a more polished experience.

Ya, at least he recognized there was someone out there smarter than him and brought him in as an advisor.

He got promoted you dont lose your PTO when you get promoted.

Did they fix harwarde decoding on the Konstakang build? Last I tried 4k content was unplayable.

I just wish the Dev would come up with a way to allow me to buy it without the play store.

Been browsing the conservative subreddit this morning just to see what they all are thinking. There is a surprising number of “This is a terrible idea” comments but its also funny seeing a whole bunch of republicans who now suddenly like higher taxes, inflation and stock crashes.

When you host your own Lemmy instance that means every server ypu federate with is going to copy its dataz including images to your server. That means that if you federate with someone who is poorly moderated, you can end up hosting CSAM yourself. You need to be prepared to deal with that problem.

I did it for awhile but didn’t want to deal with the CSAM. Shut it down after a few weeks.

Agreed it all really just depends on what functionality is important to you. If it was just me and my wife using it I’d absolutely be using Jellyfin. But between grandparents and small children using mine, I got so many complaints I had to turn Plex back on after a week.

I use OpenWRT on my network and each server I have is on its own VLAN. So in my case, my router is the firewall to my servers. But I do have on my todo list to get the local firewalls working as well. As others have said, security is about layers. You want an attacker to have to jump multiple hurdles.
Can’t the ISP pretty easily tell what website you are going to anyways? After all they are the one that ultimately connect you to the destination so they know the IP. Would just be one more step for them but they could figure out which domains resolve to that IP.

It’d probably different for everyone, but in my case, its smart collections and playlists. My family lives off the home screen and pretty much never venture beyond it. Jellyfin cannot do smart collections and the home screen is very bare bones and unpolished. In Plex I have smart collections and playlists that build automatically for them all pinned neatly to the home screen.
The Jellyfin clients are also unpolished in general and buggy. The server works great though. No problems with that.
Looks like I left Fire Sticks just in time. They say they are going to block apps that allow piracy. So are they going to block their own shitty web browser?
