There is probably some truth to that, but I don’t think they’re mutually exclusive. I think both can be erosive to human expression at the same time.

Simple, the problem is the erosion of human directed art. That is a much broader problem than if the music is good or not; it may be. But we want, many of us anyway, humans making and being recognized for making art. Empowering this expression is less likely if everybody begins consuming only machine made works.

You’re probably correct that there are other methods for perfect eggs, but I believe that is a bit reductive. Boiling first then reducing the temperature, while similar, is definitely not the same as periodic temperature change, aside from it adding the same total energy to the system. But the rate that energy is added is the critical variable.

Don’t get me wrong, your method is good, but I don’t think the method in the paper only has the advantages you list. The periodic temperature change is important, and they detail precisely why that is.

Having said all that, I’m certainly not doing this. I’m all about easy and don’t need eggs to be a certain way. I just thought it was neat.

If one really wants perfect, they should read Periodic cooking of eggs from the journal Nature earlier this year. Everybody that has implemented it, claims it works great.

For the periodic method, scientists alternated submerging the eggs for two minutes in boiling water at 100 C (212 F) and lukewarm water at 30 C (86 F). This cycle was repeated eight times for 32 minutes.

I agree, but fuck this dumb law first and foremost.

I get that. And believies can’t be based on reason. They’re just there. But it does generally require the ignoring of facts about the world around us. Like the same thing happens after death as before birth. You deal with loss by grieving. I don’t think they’re stupid, just regularly ignoring the simple answers to those questions.

It kind of is to some extent. Believing stories like this requires a certain degree of ignorance.

I really hope he grows and shows some real contrition about it. It would take time to convince me, but I really hope he just didn’t think it through. Such a bummer.
