The idea of cyber/hybrid warfare against Russia is pretty interesting. Would be interesting at any rate to see how they like having a troll brigade stirring up their populace.

You might enjoy Dan Carlin’s book The End Is Always Near. It puts everything in perspective for me - we are not experiencing a weird amount of disaster and failure, this is basically what we’re like. Get used to it.

Exactly. He needs people across the globe to condemn this plan. He’s a comedian, he knows how to deal with shabby hecklers.

It’s like Smeagol/Gollum. You might need them for certain shit, but you know it’s going to end in tears.

Fundamentally unserious “just admit defeat” type of offering. The real signal is that the US is still a painfully unreliable ally.

Ah, that’s the miscue. Haha, that’s too true though. There’s a lot about humanity I just refuse to understand.

Well thanks, and apologies. It sounded like you were saying that the entire idea of presenting yourself to an audience for social approval is alien to you. Looking back I’m not sure what the takeaway should have been. I’ll go make coffee and try to wake up.

It wasn’t lost on me, I was just agreeing from my own perspective. I wish I could be above it all like you, and that’s not sarcastic. I’m more individualistic and self-contained than almost anyone I know - to the point that it does alienate me somewhat - but I still get a frisson from public speaking, and I still seek approval from the masses online. In Trek terms I think I’d be happier if I was purely Spock, but I’ve got just enough Kirk in me to know what I’m missing.

He words me.” — Hamlet

I will cop to loving it when hundreds or thousands of strangers laugh at my jokes or agree with me, so I’m not gonna highroad anyone for seeking that.
The real reasons I have left all microblogging untouched are two things. McLuhan said “the medium is the message”. A medium that rewards brevity to a maximum is not one that thinks people should be talking a lot. It’s not a medium for communication so much as it is a medium for displays. All you get to do is strike a verbal pose on an infinite stage of other attention seekers.
The other reason is that I’m kinda verbose.

Tom Waits said "The world is a hellish place, and bad writing is destroying the quality of our suffering.”

We named our company after a device whose subtle power was such that even one of them in the wrong hands was a ruinous disaster for the entire world. And then we went straight to work for the CIA.

This is why representation in games is so important

A lucid dream does not fully simulate anything, it is an altered state that includes the subjective apprehension of verisimilitude. Perceptions and apprehensions, even outside of altered states, do not constitute proof of anything.

Exactly. You gesture at a truth that is out of reach, build and release tension in rising waves, foster an ambiguous apprehension of threat.
Horror is put to much rubbish by the fine arts, but crafting a real sense of horror is an exceedingly subtle art.

Yeah I’d just laugh like oh, this is clearly hilarious. Unambiguous. You would have to be way subtler to make me think my waiter had become dangerously unglued.
