Uh, I’m not sure if you read a different thread, but in his formal shutdown thread in !announcements@dubvee.org he was quite clear about it being about fighting against the toxicity. He basically got to a good point, but because of the .ee wake he had to start over.

But yes .ee was a special case, it was sad especially being the second largest instance. But a second instance shutdown in a month also citing burnout and toxicity is a red flag.

You can’t export/import posts, comments or votes on Lemmy unfortunately, however, they will live on on the Lemmy-verse network. .ee comms and their content will be cached by all the other active instances and .ee user contributions to remote comms (relative to them/you) will remain

We’re all part of the Fediverse which includes Masto, Pixel, PieFed, Lemmy etc all communicating on the same interoperable ActivityPub protocol

Under that is the “Lemmy-verse/Thrediverse” that is what would be “link aggregator” type social media (eg reddit) and includes PieFed, Lemmy, MBin etc.

While very cool in that it basically ruins the whole notion of centralized Social media, it has its quirks. Like what this meme is about, there’s no perfect way to translate a Lemmy reply to a mastodon user or a masto reply to a Lemmy post for a Lemmy user
