Everyone just looked the other way while Trump and his cronies repeatedly ignored deadlines and hammered away at the transfer.
I’m so tired of this blatant corruption.
Autocorrect hates me, I am sorry.

I feel like I just want to check out of society lately.
Charging money to run your own actions, what the fuck?
But the same thought goes with the new increased iOS ads, and just the general state of “now you’re locked in, let the gouging begin” phase of tech. I’m so fucking tired of it.
I know this is self hosted, but man I’m ready to start living in a cave.
Congrats to all the execs, you’ve completely ruined the tech industry.

So this is going to look like an empty list and that communism didn’t hurt anyone? What a waste of space and money.

My docker mounts just point to the folder they live in.
I’d rather have the data stored next to the config so it’s easy to find and manage.
So a folder would be services and have a compose file, config folder, and a data folder with subdirectories per service I run. Any custom dockerfiles get a folder with their build scripts.

What happens to Taiwan when China is competitive on chips?
I could see them deciding to invade, Taiwan destroys their fabs, and then China gets a monopoly but also sanctions.
The west ultimately ends up unable to build chips and China has a global monopoly.

The optimist in me has hope that this does fuel an explosion cheap hardware for businesses to build cheap+useful+private AI stuff on.

And sadly none of this hardware will be viable for consumers to use, even bought used.

I think the real question is how long can these companies decrease supply until consumers get hooked on thin-clients like iPads for all their computing, and have to pay rent on cloud services and SaaS for everything they do.
This is an assault on democratized computing.

That’s not my worst one. I did an analysis for one company which took 2 months since their data was such a mess. They were spending at least $10m/year (20 high comp devs) developing a product that was pulling in 8k/year. They did not have a path to growing revenue 1000x on that one, when I told the ceo and he doubled down that it was a bet they wanted to make. They really just wanted the nice slide deck for the board.
I checked in a year later and they were still working on it. Two years later they mothballed it. They could have saved millions by listening to me.

Last year I quit a job that added AI use to performance reviews.
It was basically “if we’re not all in on AI our competitors will be, we all need to learn it”.
Nobody paid for their product for AI before, they paid for a product that was simple and reliable so that their business didn’t have to worry about issues and could dicks on their core competencies.
I watched some sheisters build some impressive money furnaces, they got the praise while I got sidelined for pointing out the costs. I literally showed the forecasted costs of tens of thousands a week on basically a vanity feature with no payout, and the execs all said yeah that was fine, it’s AI. Then two months later they were asking me why our costs went up so much and why they didn’t know that would happen, and I just pointed to my date stamped presentation of the numbers and meeting notes they approved (and my numbers were 99% accurate to the true costs).
When execs ignore my advice and warnings I leave.

Anything you didn’t program yourself should be assumed hostile.
Lots of open source gets a pad because grumpier people than me review it and they seem to have good taste, but I still don’t blindly trust it.

This is like how I save money on internet by having cable I don’t watch.
The execs just want that cable subscriber number to go up so they effectively pay me to have it.
They had the same thing with landlines for a while.

Yeah because the tobacco, pain reliever, and social media industries clearly show how great and non predatory totally legal heroin would be.

Letting gallowboob “moderate” the basically the whole front page was an insane decision. Some of those guys were selling product placement.
The centralization of power to few mods was always a problem, but smaller communities got by.
The huge quality drop came when Spez felt he missed the IPO wave around 2018 and decided to growth hack the site. Then they finally killed most of them too with the API drama.
Popular and moving away from hot to best was also bad. They horribly failed to discipline abuse from the_donald for years…
New reddit is still not even usable from a phone. It crashes frequently and i swaer to God it only shows like 8 posts and just fucking loops through them (how have thry not noticed this, I only check 4 subreddits and its unbearable).

Team garage! It’s a great scope for software I want to support.
I’ve heard good things about seaweed too.
Fuck minio.

That’s like cigarette companies arguing smokers were more likely to get cancer even if they haven’t smoked

That’s some software gore.
How does that even get shipped?

So what’s happening here is Google is feeding headlines into a model with the instructions to generate a title of exactly 4 words.
Every example is 4 words.
Why they think 4 words is enough to communicate meaningfully, I do not know. The other thing is whether novel they’re shoving into their products for free is awful, hence the making things up and not knowing in the context of a video game exploit is not the same as the general use of the word.

I hope we demand a refund and fire them.
What a waste of money, I hate these companies and I hate that our government keeps using them.
I get they’re all scared of fixed costs but at this point how much have we wasted on these companies? They could have hired 7-10 full time employees at $80-$100k for a year for the cost of this one report. They could have hired 4-6 highly qualified professionals for that cost. They could have hired some really good term employees.
How many reports like this are we wasting resources on?
This was only a matter of time.
Frankly, a few American companies buying up and blocking the entire global supply of memory and chips is going to mean the Chinese fabs only have to compete on price and quantity, not quality, to dominate much of the world’s chip sales.
A lot of the world will accept cheap Chinese hardware with large quantities of memory over the anemic overpriced offerings Nvidia is putting to market for 10x as much.
ETA: A Fenghua 3 with 112GB HBM is rumoured to be about $1-3k for H100 like performance, which is 1/10th the price.
