I’d not at all be surprised if LG and/or others have tried using these “smart” appliances as server offload distribution nodes for their usual Internet traffic, or employees for exit nodes for less than scrupulous behavior. Similar to how Microsoft Windows uses Bittorrent to distribute Windows updates so they don’t have to serve it all themselves, when they can use their customers’ bandwidth to share the load rather than have to pay for it.
