You can get articles like this one from every european country. Wine consumption is sinking worldwide - younger people seem to drink less. Western populations are aging and older people are also drinking less due to health reasons. Wine is seen as a luxury item and therefore skipped or replaced in times of economic problems like we have currently. There are a lot of new problems around like those US taxes.
Young people leaving the countryside is definitely a problem for rural areas in general, but a “wilting” wine industry is not what personally worries me, instead I would really like to see the culture of alcoholism get reduced.

This article makes it sound like winemakers want to attract younger people into the business but are taking absolutley no action to make that happen.
And their primary source cited was a nepo-baby … 4th generation vineyard owner … who couldn’t understand why younger people are moving away from rural areas to make money, and get an education.
